Grand County accepts child-fatality prevention statement of work and formalizes WIC partnership with Summit County

Grand County Public Health on Tuesday asked commissioners to accept a state statement of work for child fatality review and to approve a partnership that lets Summit County provide Women, Infants and Children (WIC) services in Grand County with potential state funding support.
Public Health Director Abby Baker said the child fatality prevention statement of work is for $3,550 and covers the July 1, 2025—1June 30, 2026 fiscal year; funds come from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). Baker said the department will use the funds to conduct fatality review and prevention recommendations as appropriate and, when no fatalities occur, to put prevention resources such as infant car seats and youth bike helmets to community use. Commissioners approved the statement of work and authorized the chair to sign.
Baker also presented an agreement to continue Grand County—s partnership with Summit County WIC, which the county has hosted since 2021. The agreement allows Summit County to apply for state partnership funds to offset the county—s operational costs for WIC services. Baker requested signatures from the board chair, herself as local WIC program director, and the county accounting director or appointee as local fiscal agent; commissioners authorized the requested signatures and approved the partnership.
Board members thanked Baker for the department—s outreach and for donations of safety equipment to local partners when prevention reviews are not required. No public opposition to the grants or partnership was recorded at the meeting.
