Grand County proclaims EMS Week, accepts fire district waiver as Station 1 moves to construction

Grand County commissioners on Tuesday declared May 18—1 through May 24, 2025, National Emergency Medical Services Week for Grand County and formally thanked Grand County EMS as the county advances construction of EMS Station 1 in Granby.
The board approved a proclamation read by Commissioner Regner recognizing the county—s EMS providers and their training, then unanimously approved a letter to Grand Fire Protection District No. 1 expressing the county—s gratitude after the district agreed to waive its impact fees for the Station 1 build. Chief Austin Wingate, who presented the proclamation, told commissioners the waiver provides a significant savings for the project.
The county reported a groundbreaking has taken place at the Station 1 site and that county staff and the project team, including project manager Jeff Hickam, will appear before the Town of Granby this evening for the station—s final development plan and subdivision improvement agreement approvals for the town—s permitting processes. Commissioners authorized county officials to finalize and send the thank-you letter to the fire district.
No objections or formal conditions were recorded by the board during the motions approving the proclamation and the letter of thanks.
The station—s construction costs were mentioned elsewhere on the agenda in voucher and capital-payment discussions; commissioners noted a $430,000 payment tied to EMS Station 1 construction was listed in the week—s vouchers. The board did not adopt any new fees or change project permits in the meeting record.
The county scheduled a workshop next week that will include a design presentation for EMS Station 1 by D2C Architects; county staff said final exterior colors and materials have been selected and the architect will present a 3-D fly-through to the board.
