The Plumas County Board of Supervisors approved a supplemental budget transfer on March 4 to increase the Code Enforcement department’s vehicle‑abatement professional services account by $15,000.
Deputy staff and the code enforcement manager explained the transfer is intended to cover towing and disposal invoices for abandoned vehicles identified around the county. Staff said removal costs vary widely — from a few hundred dollars for small vehicles to several thousand dollars for RVs — and that public‑works assistance was used in at least one instance to reduce cost. The department said it maintains a list of approximately 10 vehicles currently targeted for removal and will reassess needs after each tow.
Supervisor Tom Engle moved the supplemental transfer, a motion seconded and approved by roll call; all supervisors voted yes. Supervisors and public speakers also discussed enforcement and possible prosecution of repeat offenders as a deterrent. The board asked staff to provide better future detail for the public on lists, unit removal costs and the number of vehicles remaining on the abatement list.
The transfer was approved without general fund impact and will be recorded in department 20450 as a professional‑services increase to allow removal work to proceed.
