"At present...we do not yet know how it will impact funding or to what degree," the director said, adding that the department is doing "budgetary drills" that model different percentages of cuts to see impacts and workarounds. She said the department has contingency contract clauses that allow 30-day termination if funding streams change and that the department is coordinating with statewide associations for guidance.
The social services office listed possible program areas facing changes, including administrative budgets for Medi-Cal and SNAP benefit rules and eligibility. The director noted previous experience with funding contractions during the 2008–09 cycle and said the county has been preparing for similar scenarios.
Supervisors asked for continued updates. The director said she will present further details as state guidance becomes available and that social services directors across the state are convening May 19 to discuss likely impacts.
No action was requested; the briefing was informational and intended to flag near-term fiscal uncertainty for supervisors as they prepare the county’s FY 2025–26 budget.
