Plumas County behavioral health proposes closure of Quincy Wellness Center, to shift services to annex

Plumas County Behavioral Health staff reported May 6 that the Quincy Wellness Center has averaged about two visitors per day and recommended closing the leased downtown facility, shifting services to the department annex and ending the lease within 60 to 90 days.
Staff said the small drop-in center was originally opened to replace a prior drop-in site and to offer centrally located services, but the Quincy site has not drawn the same usage. Behavioral Health said operating costs for the leased space approached roughly $40,000 annually for rent, utilities and staffing and that closing would avoid ongoing rent and operational costs while retaining all services at the annex.
The director said all services offered at the Quincy Wellness Center are available at the Behavioral Health annex and the county can arrange transportation for clients who need help reaching the annex if given advance notice. Staff proposed giving the public two weeks' notice before closure and then vacating the building under the lease within 60 to 90 days.
The item was presented as a report and proposed course of action; supervisors asked questions about transportation availability and whether services would be interrupted. Behavioral Health staff confirmed community bus and county transportation are available with scheduling.
