Grand County clears site work for EMS Station 1 after DOLA grant award

County Project Manager Jeff Hickam asked the board to authorize Big Valley Construction to begin site work under a preconstruction agreement. The board moved and approved the contract authorization, enabling Big Valley to start site preparation.
Hickam and county staff reported the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) grant award for EMS Station 1 in the amount of $1,842,870 had been received that morning. Hickam said the award arrived earlier than expected and would accelerate the contracting and procurement schedule. Granby Fire Board had also granted a waiver of nearly $200,000 in fire impact fees that evening, Chief Wingate told commissioners, which the county said would help reduce project costs.
The county discussed projecting a May 7 groundbreaking, tentatively scheduled for 10 a.m.; staff said invitations and coordination with partners would follow. Commissioners directed staff to proceed with contracting and site work consistent with the DOLA award and the preconstruction agreement.
Ending: With the DOLA award in hand and impact-fee relief from the Granby Fire Board, county staff said the project will move forward into construction contracting and site mobilization; staff will return with formal contracting documents and update the board on the May groundbreaking date.
