Historic Preservation staff presented a revised Ybor City Historic District map and inventory during the May 13 meeting, highlighting changes since the prior map and recommending the commission adopt the updated official map.
Heather Bonds, historic preservation specialist, told commissioners that staff physically inspected every site in the district and documented changes, then summarized numbers of updates: 69 new construction footprints added to the inventory, 29 contributing structures demolished (nine of those due to FDOT right‑of‑way work), 59 non‑contributing demolitions and several relocations and status changes.
Staff showed examples where demolition created vacant lots that enabled more sensitive new construction, where relocated buildings were received at Preservation Park and other replacement sites, and where previously altered buildings were restored and returned to contributing status. Staff also noted a small number of contributing structures that had been reclassified as non‑contributing because fire, arson or other damage had substantially compromised their historic integrity.
Commissioners praised the fieldwork and the map’s utility and voted to accept the revised Ybor City Historic District map and inventory as the official record.
Adoption of the revised map will guide future staff reviews and CA (certificate of appropriateness) decisions in Ybor City and serves as the authoritative list of contributing versus non‑contributing resources for the local district.
