Commissioners approve 2025 second supplemental budget; Mind Springs grant reallocated to senior meals

The Garfield County Board of County Commissioners approved the 2025 second supplemental budget and appropriation report during a public hearing April 14.
Finance staff said the action implements requested adjustments in accordance with Colorado Revised Statute 29-1-109 and an existing county budget policy. The board approved removing a budgeted nonprofit grant of $44,550 to Mind Springs Hospital after the facility closed March 10 and reallocating that same amount to Human Services for the county senior meal program.
County staff also reported that the sheriff's office would receive $50,000 less than originally budgeted from a POHM state grant reimbursement; the sheriff's office adjusted its request accordingly. Human resources requested an internal reallocation to fund referral bonuses, moving $3,000 from recruitment expense to referral bonuses.
A commissioner noted appreciation for the sheriff's office reporting the reduced grant award promptly so county budgets remain accurate. After a public hearing with no public opposition, the board moved, seconded and approved the supplemental budget and resolution to amend the 2025 appropriation as presented.
