El Segundo Run for Education draws local, out‑of‑town runners to raise funds for K‑12 schools

The El Segundo PTA Council’s Run for Education brought runners, families and volunteers to downtown El Segundo for an annual fundraiser that supports the city’s K‑12 public schools, organizers and participants said.

Organizers described the event as the PTA’s largest fundraiser, with volunteers running the activities and a USA Track & Field–certified course winding through downtown and residential neighborhoods. A PTA member with the El Segundo PTA Council said, “So this is the Run for Education. It's the largest fundraiser for our PTA.”

The run served both competitive runners and families. A runner who identified herself as part of the Snail's Peace running club in Mission Viejo said the event helps maintain training goals and “build community engagement,” adding that the rain held off until after she crossed the finish line. A parent with children in transitional kindergarten at Richmond Street School said seeing teachers, the principal and other families running together made the event feel “like a big family.”

Participants and organizers said volunteers staff the PTA and that funds raised support classroom activities such as field trips, school activities and library books and supplies. A participant noted a vendor area and out‑of‑town visitors, saying the run draws local South Bay residents as well as runners from neighboring California cities and some international participants.

The event also functions as a community celebration, with participants describing it as an opportunity for neighbors to connect and for children to see teachers and school leaders participating. No specific dollar amounts for funds raised were given in the recorded remarks.
