Board discusses Webb County participation terms for TIRZ; staff to draft proposed agreement

Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone No. 1 board members reported May 13 that staff met with Webb County Commissioner Jaime to discuss county participation in the TIRZ and that staff will draft proposed terms for consideration.
The discussion matters because county participation would affect governance, funding participation and the board’s composition. Board members said the three primary term subjects are the county’s level of financial participation, proposed board membership and the participation term (how long the county would participate).
Staff said they would draft proposed terms and coordinate with the city manager and council before presenting the proposal to Commissioner Jaime and, if the county approves the terms, to the Webb County commissioners court for consideration and then back to the City Council for formal ratification. No final agreement or vote occurred at the May 13 meeting.
Board members indicated they expected to resume coordination next week with staff and the city manager to produce a draft that others can review; Miss Martinez and other staff attended the follow-up meeting with Commissioner Jaime, the board said.
