Analisa Perez Gomez, identified in an email excerpt presented at the meeting, outlined two options: request a city-hosted page through the City Secretary’s office (a static page with limited capacity for frequent updates and limited city staff time for content editing) or pursue an independently hosted website that would require funding to outsource creation and hosting but could be linked from the city’s official pages. The commission was told city staff are unlikely to commit to frequent content editing for commission pages.
Commission members proposed using social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram) and live recordings to increase reach and interactivity. Members emphasized that social media would let several people post photos and short clips, host live sessions and post links to recorded presentations.
The commission agreed to form a committee to work with Analisa Perez Gomez and city technology staff to explore the path forward, confirm funding needs and check legal constraints. Staff and library representatives recommended legal review before pursuing an externally hosted site to confirm compliance and any limitations on official use of city resources.
Volunteers for the committee were identified during the meeting (Frida, Laura and Sandra among others); the chair said the commission would officially assign the committee in August and asked staff to coordinate with committee members and council representatives about possible funding and technical support. The commission did not vote on funding or create an independent site at the meeting.
