Fitzpatrick told the commissioners the person “is accountable for determining eligibility of who gets ballots in these special district elections” and for navigating multiple legal requirements associated with those elections.
Fitzpatrick said county payroll and classification review indicated the JT‑1 project specialist classification best fit the role’s responsibilities and that the change can be absorbed within the Clerk and Recorder’s existing budget. Commissioners voiced support for preserving election operations amid wider federal and state funding cuts.
The board approved the reclassification by voice vote; commissioners present voted in favor.
The reclassification will be implemented through county human resources and payroll processes; the Clerk and Recorder’s office said the change is intended to ensure consistent assignment of responsibilities across the elections team.
