Resident urges Coppell to reinstate senior center advisory committee, cites nonresident access concerns

During the public comment portion of the May 13 meeting, Dr. Jack Henderson, a Coppell resident, addressed the council with concerns about management of the Coppell Senior and Community Center.
Henderson told the council he believes the center in 2024 dissolved its advisory committee and that management said it was replacing the committee with an unspecified arrangement. He said that, in practice, some nonresidents have been permitted to register for activities at the same time as residents, and that a one-week waiting period for nonresident registration that had been described previously was not being followed. Henderson said nonresidents should not be able to buy the same amenities as taxpayers for $20 and requested that the city establish an advisory committee sanctioned by the city council and the Parks and Recreation Board rather than leaving that governance to center management.
