Justin Wilson was formally sworn in as the River Falls fire chief during the City Council meeting on May 13. Mayor Dan Tolan administered the oath of office as councilmembers, staff and attendees observed.
Council remarks highlighted Wilson’s 12 years with the River Falls Fire Department, service as captain since 2019, and recognition as firefighter of the year in 2018. “Justin joined the department as a volunteer in 2013 and has served as captain since 2019,” the mayor said while introducing the ceremony. Council members noted Wilson’s leadership experience, background in fire science and private-sector leadership as reasons he was chosen in a national search.
Wilson said briefly after the oath that he was grateful for the opportunity and looked forward to leading the department through an upcoming major renovation of the fire station. “We’ve got a great department, great city, and really, really looking forward to this opportunity,” he said.
The swearing-in was ceremonial; no council vote was required. The department transition and the planned station renovation were discussed in general terms during the ceremony; specific project timelines and funding were not presented during the meeting.
