The Navasota City Council on Monday formalized post‑election procedures for newly elected council members and selected internal leadership for the coming term.
City election officials presented certificates of election and administered oaths of office to newly elected council members for Places 4 and 5. The mayor administered the oath to Bert Miller for City Council Place 4 and the oath was also administered to Jacqueline Harris for the other newly elected seat.
Following the swearing‑in, the council considered the selection of a council member to serve as mayor and acted by acclamation. A councilmember moved to nominate Miller for the office of mayor and to elect by acclamation; the motion received a second, council voted "aye," and the item carried.
The council also considered the office of mayor pro tem. Councilmembers nominated Josh Bull for mayor pro tem; the motion received a second and passed by voice vote.
No contested election canvass was required for Places 4 and 5 because neither position had an opponent, and staff said post‑election procedures proceeded with certificate issuance and oath administration. The council took no other personnel or policy actions under this agenda item.
