Ava Driggs and Alexis Mikolek told the board the project was part of their government and politics capstone required for the district’s Seal of Civic Readiness. “For our government and politics class, we had to do a senior capstone project to earn our seal of civic readiness, and we decided to do a naturalization ceremony,” Driggs said. Both students credited teacher support and Key Club volunteers; Driggs and Mikolek described the ceremony as an emotional event that brought candidates and their families together and featured a guest speaker, Jennifer Rizzo Choi.
Superintendent Doug and other administrators attended the ceremony; administrators said the event ran smoothly and that Master of Ceremonies duties were performed by a district staff member. The board thanked the students and staff for the community effort and the educational opportunity it provided for senior capstone participants.
