A jury found Mariano Rendon guilty and the 187th District Court followed the verdict, sentencing him to three years in prison, Judge Stephanie Boyd said during a hearing on May 19, 2025.
The jury returned a unanimous punishment verdict, and Judge Stephanie Boyd read the sentence in open court. "We assess this punishment at confinement in the institutional division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for a term of 3 years," the judge told the courtroom.
The case drew victim impact testimony and the prosecutor told the court there is an outstanding restitution amount. The prosecutor said, "I believe you have an amount of 28,000." Defense counsel asked for an opportunity to review records and requested a separate restitution hearing; the court set the restitution hearing for June 9, 2025, to allow the state to produce itemized documentation.
After announcing the sentence, the judge ordered that the defendant be taken into custody and directed the prosecutor to ensure a hold and the restitution record were available for the June hearing.
The court said jurors would be escorted from the courtroom and that the judgment and any restitution determination would be handled at the scheduled follow-up date.
