Senate Judiciary Committee reports out amendment on civil contempt proceedings after unanimous 5-0 vote

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 5-0 to report an amendment concerning civil contempt proceedings, the committee’s presiding senator said at the meeting.

Committee members moved to a vote after the presiding senator said, “Our batch counsel was able to very quickly make those changes we suggested,” and asked whether anyone had further comment. With no additional discussion, the presiding senator said, “Assuming nobody has had a change of heart,” and called for a vote.

Madison, the committee clerk, called the roll. Senators Norris, Vyhoske, Groove, Meadows and Rashid registered “yes,” producing a 5-0 tally. No mover or seconder for the motion was stated on the record. Committee members did not record any abstentions or no votes during the roll call.

The committee designated Senator Mohowsky to report the amendment out of committee. No further debate on the amendment was recorded at the meeting, and no other formal actions related to the amendment were taken during the session.

The meeting moved on after the committee confirmed there were no additional agenda items for the afternoon.
