The board then approved a change order related to a fire alarm at the district's plaza facility. A board member identified in the meeting as Joe moved the motion; another trustee, Richard, seconded. Trustees discussed the timing of final safety testing and whether certain inspections — including first-responder radio checks — had been requested early enough in the construction process. One trustee warned that inspections by fire marshals and radio system verifications can "cost you money at the end," and urged that such tests be asked for earlier in future projects.
A second change order approved by the board covered renovations to Building 1 at the district administrative complex (referred to in the meeting transcript as the "Bridal Administrative Complex"); the board authorized the superintendent to finalize related documents. Trustees voted unanimously on that item as well.
During discussion trustees and staff noted that first-responder radio-frequency testing is typically done after construction because the final transmission environment depends on actual materials (walls, glass, storm-shelter design) and that the district budgets a discretionary amount for remediation where tests show dead spots. District staff said testing work would be brought to the board in a future meeting so needed fixes can be scoped and paid from the district's set-aside funds.
All motions on the personnel and construction items passed by unanimous vote.
Next steps include finalizing the change-order documents and scheduling the RF/first-responder communications testing that staff said will be presented to the board for approval.
