Birdville ISD presented its 2025–26 professional learning calendar to the board April 24 and demonstrated the district's new summer catalog, called the Learning Vine, intended to centralize summer offerings and registration.
“The professional learning calendar is ready for your approval,” Sarah Upchurch, director of professional learning, told the board, noting the calendar uses hyperlinks that take staff to session descriptions and registration pages.
Upchurch said the Learning Vine organizes summer learning day-by-day and by topic and will host a intensive two-week set of in-person offerings at the Professional Learning Center July 7–17, though professional learning will be available across the entire summer. The calendar includes onboarding events, a three-day new teacher academy, and multiple district professional learning days supported by waiver requests that will appear on the consent agenda. The district noted the waiver days were approved by the committee on April 14, 2025.
The Learning Vine calendar also includes differentiated offerings (elementary, secondary, and all-staff), a focus strand called "flourishing," options for food trucks and collegial activities, and a "bring a book, take a book" exchange. Upchurch described features designed to make the catalog easy to navigate: color-coding by audience, topic-based landing pages, session descriptions showing the intended audience, and direct registration links. The system also enables new hires to access training immediately after onboarding; the district said Chromebooks are issued to new employees in June so they can begin learning before the school year starts.
Board members thanked the professional learning staff and noted outside recognition for the department; one trustee said the district's professional learning team was chosen as a top program in the state. The board will consider the calendar and any related waiver requests as part of the consent agenda at the April 24 meeting.
