Votes at a glance: Mono County board approves consent items, appoints emergency standby officials and backs White Mountain Fire station

Mono County’s Board of Supervisors handled several formal actions on Feb. 18, approving a multi‑item consent agenda, adopting emergency standby appointments and voting unanimously to support a White Mountain Fire Protection District station project.

Consent agenda: The board read and approved the consent agenda items by a single motion and voice vote. The items announced by title included: - Consent A: Mono County Jail Construction Bid Package Authorization (proceed to bid authorized) - Consent B: Budget adjustment for District Attorney TrueNarc joint purchase (budget amendment) - Consent C: Ordinance adding section 2.64.040 to provide county observance of federally designated holidays - Consent D: Resolution amending an allocation list (project/resolution details in staff packet) - Consent E: Quarterly investment report The consent agenda motion passed unanimously with the board recorded as “Aye.” Staff noted that the jail bid authorization followed recent BSCC communications and a project schedule presented by Public Works.

Emergency standby officials: The board also adopted a resolution appointing standby officials in compliance with Government Code 8635–8644 to ensure continuity of government during emergencies. The appointed standby officials (per district) are: Patricia Robertson (District 1), Katherine Peterson (District 2), Yvette Garcia (District 3), Barry Beck (District 4) and Stacy Corliss (District 5). The resolution passed by unanimous vote (5–0).

White Mountain Fire: Following a presentation by Chief Dave Dunan of the White Mountain Fire Protection District, the board voted 5–0 to provide a letter of support for the district’s plan to replace and modernize its Benton station and explore a satellite facility in Hammel Valley. The board asked staff to bring additional material on the Hammel Valley parcel and possible uses and to consider a workshop on the property’s history and constraints.

How the votes were taken: The consent agenda was approved by motion and unanimous voice vote. The emergency‑standby resolution and the letter of support each passed on recorded unanimous voice votes (5–0). The use‑permit appeal for the June Lake property (public hearing) was heard separately and resulted in a 3–2 vote to uphold the Planning Commission denial (see separate article).
