Commissioner Hill presented the addendum and said the site will serve emergency medical response to northern Anderson County. County staff said the site is in a grass area behind the station and that county maintenance personnel and probationers had already removed debris. A county representative said the plan is to level the landing area and place about "3 or 4 inches of wrap" and compact it so helicopters can land safely.
The court approved the addendum on a motion by Commissioner Maynard, seconded by Commissioner Chapin. County staff said the fire station is roughly 25–30 minutes from Palestine by road and the helipad will give medical and DPS helicopters a formal nearby landing area when needed.
