WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — The Incarceration Prevention and Reduction Task Force voted on May 12 to sunset a standing subcommittee that had focused on the county's crisis stabilization services and the Anne Deacon Center.
A steering-committee recommendation to dissolve the crisis stabilization committee was brought to the full task force and approved by raised hands and voice vote. The motion recommended sunsetting the crisis stabilization committee and "encourag[ing] quarterly reporting from Pioneer Human Services, Compass Health, and county health and community health service department," according to the motion text read into the record. The steering committee had previously voted 6–0 with 1 abstention in favor of the recommendation.
Task force Co-Chair Peter Frazier said the subcommittee had been useful while the Anne Deacon Center was opening, but with program operations established and leadership turnover — including Perry Mowery's retirement — the steering group recommended folding oversight back into standing committees and receiving periodic reports instead.
The motion passed without recorded opposition or an amended motion at the meeting. The task force asked staff to circulate the first quarterly reports from county health staff and providers to the full IPRTF.
Ending: The task force will expect quarterly provider reports and the steering committee will monitor any outstanding issues related to crisis stabilization service delivery.
