Alief ISD board votes to propose nonrenewal of two term contracts

The board recorded the vote as five in favor, zero against and zero abstentions; the motion passed.
For agenda item 10.7, the board considered the administration’s recommendation to propose nonrenewal of a term contract for an Ali Middle School employee. Trustee Spurlock moved the motion, which was seconded by Trustee Kee (recorded in one instance as “Key”). The board again recorded five votes in favor, zero against and zero abstentions and approved the recommendation. In both cases the board authorized the superintendent or his designee to provide notice of the proposed nonrenewal consistent with Chapter 21 of the Texas Education Code.
Board members provided no substantive discussion or public comment on either personnel item; the presiding officer asked for motions after asking whether there were any questions or comments and each item was moved, seconded and approved. The board then moved to reports and comments; Trustee Moreno used that period to recognize a recent district soccer championship runner-up team and requested the board consider inviting the team to a future meeting for public recognition. The meeting adjourned at 1:00 a.m. April 16, 2025.
