The recommendation followed committee guidance to align calendar planning with assessment windows, campus professional‑learning planning and senior‑year timelines (rank and GPA reporting before scholarship deadlines). The committee also advised the district to continue studying options such as longer school days or revised Professional Learning Community (PLC) timing to increase instructional minutes without adding days.
“Discussion came from multiple lenses, as I’ve talked about, and stakeholder groups. And, we considered the board feedback from our update in March,” Deputy Young said in presenting the calendars. Trustees asked detailed scheduling questions about spring break, Good Friday and how long‑range planning days will be used to ensure teachers attend and that campuses use the time productively.
Board members raised formatting and clarity issues: the two draft calendars and labeling caused confusion during the meeting, and trustees asked administration to place both Calendar A (administration’s recommendation) and Calendar B in board notes with a clear explanation of differences so members can review before a May vote. No final vote was taken; the board directed staff to post the calendars for review and return the item in May.
