Lane County administrators detail central services cuts, warehouse closure and wildfire recovery grants

Judy Williams, chief of staff, and Lauren Blight, director of operations, said the county will close its 19,000-square-foot central warehouse at the Delta campus at the end of the fiscal year because long-term shifts in purchasing practices have reduced the value of a county-run central supply facility. Blight said the closure will eliminate one filled stores position; staff are assessing alternate uses for the building and expect cost savings once the warehouse stops operating as a central supply hub.
Operations staff also described a countywide lighting retrofit under an energy savings performance contract that will replace older fixtures with LEDs and yield operating savings once completed. Blight said the county had already replaced a generator on the Plaza Municipal Building rooftop and that a central plant upgrade for the Public Service Building is an early capital priority because the plant supports cooling and critical systems such as the data center and dispatch.
On the policy side, Policy Director Steve Adams described a transition in holiday-farm-fire recovery funding: earlier recovery work had relied substantially on state appropriations, while a separate federal Community Development Block Grant ' Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) allocation is now moving forward. Adams said the county is working with Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) to program approximately $25 million for housing-related recovery activities locally, as the state and federal processes mature and funds become available.
