Alief ISD trustees hear budget and legislative update; district projects deficit will clear next year

Alief ISD trustees received an update on the district’s budget and active education bills in the Texas Legislature, hearing that a projected deficit at the end of this school year is likely to disappear in the next fiscal year but that several program allotments remain underfunded.

Financial staff said the district’s 2023–24 CTE allotment totaled about $17.9 million and must be spent at a minimum 55 percent rate, leaving roughly $4.5 million available for other uses; the district reported spending and program needs exceed the allotment. The board also heard that the district’s CCMR allotment was $1.4 million against an annual cost of about $2.6 million, creating an ongoing district expense of roughly $1.2 million.
