KATY ISD trustees elect Lance Redmond president, Rebecca Fox vice president; Champagne chosen secretary

Lance Redmond was elected president of the KATY ISD Board of Trustees and Rebecca Fox was elected vice president during the board’s May 12, 2025, regular meeting following the swearing-in of newly elected trustees.

The vote for president was decided 5-2 in favor of Redmond, the board announced after members cast ballots via the boardroom keypad. The vote for vice president likewise concluded 5-2 in favor of Rebecca Fox. Don Champagne was elected secretary with a tally reported as four ayes, two nays and one abstention.

The meeting opened with the administration of the oath of office to newly elected trustees by Debbie Davis, identified in the meeting as secretary for board services and notary. After returning from a short closed session the board opened nominations for officers. Trustee Morgan Calhoun nominated Champagne for president; Lance Redmond was also nominated. Trustees moved to close nominations and proceeded to vote in the order nominations were made, using the keypad system described at the dais.

Board procedure during the reorganizational votes followed the district’s publicly posted process: nominations, a motion to close nominations, and individual roll voting on each office. The board then moved on to the remainder of the agenda, including presentations and public comment.

No additional policy changes or motions tied directly to the officer elections were made during the meeting. The board took no separate action to change its committee structure at this meeting; trustees said they would circulate preferences for committee assignments for future consideration.

The reorganization follows the May election and the formal swearing-in of trustees earlier in the meeting.
