The Provo City School Board voted unanimously on May 13 to approve hazardous and courtesy bus routes recommended by the district’s traffic safety committee, including funding for routes at Amelia Earhart, Canyon Crest, Shoreline and Spring Creek and a modified route at Wasatch Elementary.
Jared Sites summarized the recommendation during the business meeting and said the Department of Transportation funds and provides courtesy stops; the traffic safety committee recommended continued funding for the named routes. The district also recommended funding a temporary route for Franklin Elementary to address a construction project that will increase traffic on 500 West.
Board members discussed a recent site visit and bus-tour that informed the recommendation; members said the tour helped them evaluate actual conditions before voting. A motion to approve the routes was made by Emily Harrison and seconded by board member Terry McCabe. The motion passed unanimously.
District staff will implement the route modifications and coordinate with the Department of Transportation where required.
