Provo School Board to Consider Consolidated Trust Lands Plans in Tonight’s Business Meeting

Provo City School District staff told the Provo City School Board on May 13 that school Trust Lands plans have been consolidated into each school’s improvement plan and uploaded to the state portal, and that the board will be asked to approve those plans at the board’s business meeting later that evening.

Assistant Superintendent Jared Sites said the district merged Trust Lands documentation with each school’s improvement plan to reduce duplication and that a rubric was supplied to board members so they could identify Trust Lands activities embedded in the improvement plans.

The consolidation was described as administrative: Sites said two schools’ Trust Lands portal entries were completed after the district uploaded materials, but their goals, activities and expenditures were already reflected in the school improvement plans that board members previously received. "Those activities, expenditures, goals were included in the school improvement plan," Sites said, adding that the two remaining portal entries were completed in time for the state deadline.

Board members asked procedural questions about signatures and voting timing. Board member Lisa Boyce asked whether signatures still needed to be physical; Sites replied that physical signatures are not required and that board minutes showing approval satisfy the requirement. When Boyce asked whether the board had already voted on school improvement plans, Sites clarified that the formal vote will occur in the evening business meeting and that the board had previously reviewed the drafts and the Trust Lands portal report now in BoardDocs.

Sites reiterated the district recommendation: that the board approve the consolidated school improvement plans and associated Trust Lands plans in the forthcoming business meeting.

The board did not take a vote on the matter during the study session; Sites said the formal approval would be scheduled for the business meeting. Board members were given the rubric and the consolidated documents in BoardDocs to review before the vote.

If approved in the business meeting, the approval will be recorded in the minutes and will serve as the district’s formal review and approval of Trust Lands plans for this cycle.
