Commission hears plan for dog pound repairs; staff to return with pricing

Hardy County staff presented plans to improve the county dog pound, telling commissioners the work will begin when the contractor’s schedule allows and that staff will return with pricing for several items.
Staff said privacy inserts (privacy slats) are under consideration for existing chain‑link fencing to improve the outdoor run area and that mulch will be added to reduce mud in saturated ground. “The outdoor area… it does get saturated with a lot of water, and it does get… muddy,” the presenter said, and noted a parks employee (Anthony) had agreed to haul an initial load of mulch to assess improvement.
Staff also recommended pressure washing and repainting the pound building after other contractor work finishes and said they would seek bids from a professional tree trimmer to clear trees that may interfere with construction.
The commission did not take a final procurement vote at the meeting; commissioners asked staff to gather pricing for fencing, mulch and tree trimming and to return with estimates. One commissioner asked that painting be deferred until after the other improvements are completed.
Decision/direction: Staff to obtain bids and pricing for privacy slats, mulch, tree trimming and related site work and return to the commission with cost estimates; painting deferred pending completion of other improvements.
