The Duvall Cultural Commission finalized several Summer Stage preparations on May 12: commissioners completed dot voting on 13 T‑shirt design submissions, picked a winning design for event merchandise, and directed staff to run a multi-step youth-performance selection process for the 25th‑anniversary Summer Stage on Aug. 9.
Staff described the T‑shirt process: 13 submissions were displayed and commissioners used dots to indicate preferences; the top vote-getter was selected as the contest winner and staff will contact the young artist and vendors. Rita told the commission that a screen-printing vendor who previously worked on local events is willing to come to the 25th‑anniversary concert and do on‑site live pressing of T‑shirts.
On youth performances, commissioners agreed on a three-stage process to select young performers for sound-check slots during the Aug. 9 event: (1) solicit short audition videos (suggested maximum about one minute) with an extended submission window to accommodate families; (2) hold open auditions at the event stage to allow local performers to appear in person; and (3) offer callbacks so a smaller set of finalists can be scheduled for sound checks and the final program. Commissioners discussed time limits for live auditions (suggesting two- to three-minute caps or a strict elapsed-time cutoff) and the need to manage parent expectations for critical feedback. Staff proposed a first-review window and a callback date in mid‑July; commissioners and staff agreed to the combined submission-plus-audition approach to reduce the number of live entries and to provide fairness and a basic audition filter.
Staff noted the main Summer Stage event day is planned for Aug. 9 and the audition/callback schedule will require participating families to be available for both the July callbacks and the Aug. 9 performance date. The commission asked staff to publish audition rules, submission timelines and time limits for performances; staff will return with entry instructions and scheduling details.
