Supporters, including clergy, renter-advocacy groups and housing advocates, said Ferre's experience as a renter and with affordable-housing projects brings a needed perspective to a commission that advises on the comprehensive plan and zoning. Marybeth Roth, Interfaith Action of Evanston and several faith leaders and community groups urged the council to approve Ferre, saying his negotiation skills and lived experience would broaden the commission's viewpoint.
