The San Angelo Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Claudia Becerra as director of school safety and student services following the impending retirement of Scott Walters.
Dr. Moran recommended the hire and thanked Walters for his service, calling him a ‘‘veteran to this district’’ and noting the district’s recent development of the position. Dr. Moran said, “my recommendation tonight is to offer the position to Claudia Becerra who has been a faithful leader at Carver and Pays. Miss Becerra is 1 of a kind and, is tough as nails.”
A board member who had previously worked with Becerra praised her ‘‘bigger heart for kids’’ and work ethic. The motion to appoint Becerra was made by Miss Duncan and seconded by Missus Arroyo; the board voted 6-0 in favor. Trustees thanked Walters for his service and wished him well in retirement.
The board did not attach additional conditions to the appointment during the meeting; standard HR procedures were expected to follow to finalize the hire.
