The San Angelo Independent School District Board of Trustees voted 6-0 to appoint Ashley Bishop as principal of Lamar Elementary School for the 2025–26 school year.
Board members said Bishop, who has served as Lamar’s assistant principal, was an internal candidate with established relationships on campus. Dr. Moran recommended Bishop to the board, saying, “Miss Bishop has been the assistant principal at Lamar. She's a quality candidate, and we know she's gonna do great things at Lamar Elementary.” The motion to approve Bishop was made by Mister Dendle and seconded by Missus Arroyo; the board recorded a 6-0 vote in favor.
Board members offered brief comments before the vote. One trustee said Bishop “has always got a smile on her face” and described her as a “very valuable team member,” remarks that the board said reflected staff sentiment at Lamar. After the vote, trustees congratulated Bishop and welcomed her new role.
No other formal actions or conditions were attached to the appointment during the recorded discussion. The board said the hire is for the 2025–26 school year; any subsequent personnel paperwork or contract formalities will follow standard district procedures.
The appointment discussion was moved forward on the agenda so guests waiting outside could hear the decision prior to other business.
