Gasparilla'linked nonprofit Recycled Tunes credited with refurbishing nearly 2,800 instruments for Hillsborough students

Tracy Lisi, supervisor of K-5 music, and John Seaver, supervisor of K-12 music, presented a recognition May 13 for Recycled Tunes and the Gasparilla Music Foundation for instrument refurbishment and donations to Hillsborough County schools.
John Seaver said the partnership has allowed students to have personal instruments rather than share classroom instruments and that the program has expanded from elementary-only to include middle and high schools. He said Recycled Tunes has worked in 26 schools over five years, repairing or donating about 2,800 instruments and touching an estimated 44,000 student contacts; he gave the total replacement or repair value as about $280,000.
Seaver and Lisi described the partnership as helping fill gaps in instrument availability when program demand has outstripped supply from instrument manufacturers. David Cox and Tad Denham of Recycled Tunes accepted the recognition and described refurbishing donated instruments for reuse in classrooms and ensembles.
The board recognized the group; no formal action was taken.
