Cambridge International Education recognized Hillsborough County Public Schools as its 2024-25 District of the Year, citing equity, expanded access and exam performance; presenter noted 14,000 college credits earned via Cambridge courses and 249 ACE diplomas.
Don Myers, national manager for school and district development at Cambridge International Education, presented the Cambridge District of the Year award to Hillsborough County Public Schools during the board's May 13 recognition meeting.
Myers said Cambridge judged districts on equity, expanding access to rigorous courses and maintaining or improving Cambridge exam performance. He reported that Hillsborough students earned more than 14,000 college credits through Cambridge courses last year and that 249 students attained the ACE diploma, which Cambridge representatives said can qualify students for tuition benefits at public universities if they maintain eligibility.
Myers also noted that the Cambridge program now operates in every high school in the district and several middle schools, and that Cambridge's local professional-development events have grown into a large international professional-development gathering. He singled out local staff who helped expand the program, naming members of the district's advanced programs team.
The board gave brief remarks of appreciation to Cambridge and district staff. The recognition required no board vote; it was presented as an honorary award.
