School board committee approves bus lease, multiple food-service contracts and $79,272 Ida repair change order for South Terrebonne High

The committee recommended the board enter into a bus lease agreement with the Le Cirque mentoring program to allow bus usage from June 1 through Dec. 31, 2025. Under the terms presented, mileage reimbursement was set at 50% of the cost of a gallon of fuel at the time of travel with a minimum per‑mile fee of $2.50; the mentoring program will provide and pay drivers approved by the school board and supply required insurance.
The committee also recommended approval of multiple bids for the child nutrition program for the 2025–26 school year, including lowest‑responsive bidders for meat and frozen goods, canned and dry goods, fruit juice, fresh fruits and vegetables, supplies and disposables, linens (option to extend), and concentrated detergents. The awards were to be funded from the Child Nutrition Program Fund; specific vendor names and amounts were read into the record for each category.
The committee recommended waiving Facility Use Policy E‑1.6 and approved the Homer Jets track club’s request to use Ellender Memorial High School track for practices only for the 2025 season (May 1–Aug. 31) Monday–Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., conditioned on reimbursement of custodial costs, proof of insurance, nonprofit status and principal approval.
On facilities, the committee recommended approval of Change Order No. 9 for the South Terrebonne High School building repair project from Hurricane Ida for code‑required fire‑rated wall and ceiling changes ordered by the fire marshal. The change order total as presented was $79,272.49, to be funded by FEMA ($71,345.24) and local funds ($7,927.25). A board member asked whether the change order would affect the project timeline and staff said it would not.
A representative of the mentoring program (Le Cirque) and a coach for the Homer Jets track club addressed the committee in support of their requests. Committee members moved the recommendations forward; the committee report was read to the board and motions to approve were recorded as recommended.
