Florence 1 trustees authorize superintendent to finalize Laurel Street property sale

Chairman Stewart authorized the Florence School District 1 administration to complete the sale of a district-owned property on Laurel Street, approving a motion after the board returned from executive session.

The board voted to authorize administration, through Superintendent Richard O'Malley, "to execute such legal documents as are required for the sale of that certain property according to the terms of offer located on Laurel Street," Chairman Stewart said during the open-session motion. The motion was moved and seconded and carried on an affirmative voice vote.

The resolution followed an executive-session discussion limited to legal advice on property matters; the board said no action was taken while in executive session and formal approval was taken in open session. No further sale terms, including the sale price or purchaser identity, were disclosed in the public record at the meeting.

Board members who moved and seconded the motion were not identified by full name on the public record; the motion carried after those in favor responded "aye." The superintendent was authorized to sign documents consistent with the terms the board reviewed in executive session.

The board recessed for executive session earlier in the meeting to consider four items, of which property matters were one; the chair later reported the discussions occurred and confirmed the board returned to open session before voting on the authorization.

The board did not specify a closing date or any contingencies tied to the sale during the open session discussion. Any future disclosures required by district policy or state law would appear in subsequent meeting materials or filings.
