Commission rezones land near Highway 33 and approves Taco Bell site plan

The Perkins City Commission approved a rezoning application from the McWhirter Trust to change a tract of land located about 500 feet west of Casey's General Store on Highway 33 from agricultural to commercial, granted a specific-use permit to allow a restaurant on the parcel, and recommended approval of a site plan for RA Wilson Enterprises Inc. for a Taco Bell drive-through.
Staff reported the planning commission had recommended the changes. The applicants site plan, reviewed by staff and engineers, shows detention and drainage features designed to retain runoff on-site and avoid impacts to Highway 33; staff said ODOT drainage and the site design will direct stormwater to an on-site impoundment. "There's ODOT drainage detention facility right behind them. And when their engineers came in, they were super easy to work with. They're gonna impound their water towards the back of the site," staff said.
Staff said Taco Bells contractor planned to close on the property upon issuance of the building permit and anticipated the restaurant could open about 90 days after contractor mobilization. The motions to approve the rezoning, the specific-use permit, and to recommend the site plan passed unanimously.
