Board approves readministration of EOG/EOC tests for elementary and middle schools

The Alexander County Board of Education unanimously approved a district plan to readminister end‑of‑grade (EOG) and end‑of‑course (EOC) assessments for elementary and middle school students after the state notified districts on April 2 that readministration was permitted.
Dr. Danita Bridal Reavis, director of communications, testing and accountability, told the board the state allows readministration in the final school days — the last 10 days for middle and elementary grades and the last five days for high school — and the district plans to use the option for third through eighth grade math and fourth through eighth grade reading. Officials determined high schools would not participate because scheduling remediation within the required window would be impractical this late in the year.
Dr. Bridal Reavis said retesting is voluntary and requires parental permission. She explained that scores from the readministration can contribute to proficiency measures used in the school performance grade (the “A–F” scale) but will not count toward growth points; the district will use the higher proficiency result if a student achieves proficiency on the second administration. Test results will be available quickly, and coordinators will notify parents the morning after scoring about eligibility for readministration.
Vice Chairman Degenhardt moved to approve the readministration plan; Board Member Oksentine seconded. The board approved the plan by unanimous voice vote.
District staff said they will send materials to families later in the week with permission forms and additional details, and building testing coordinators will manage outreach and scheduling at each school.
