The Sweetwater County School District No. 2 board approved an agreement with the city of Green River to provide land for an FFA land lab and to swap a parcel near the old Roosevelt School under a 25-year lease arrangement.
Mr. Baring Gould described the agreement and presented a map showing approximately three acres proposed for the land lab. "In front of you, you have a map of 3 acres of land that we will do a 25 year lease with them," he said, adding that the MOU included a corresponding 25-year lease for property near the old Roosevelt School or Senior Citizen Center in exchange.
Board members voted to approve the land-lab agreement. Trustee Mandy moved and Michelle seconded the motion. Trustee Tommy abstained from the vote; the rest of the board voted in favor and the motion carried.
Board members and district staff said the land would enable FFA members and 4-H families to raise animals and run hands-on agricultural programs that had been constrained by lack of available acreage. Staff noted additional site work would be required once the lease and land access are finalized.
