Lakeside Farms highlights winter test gains, student supports and arts funding

Lakeside Farms school leaders told the Lakeside Union School District Board of Trustees that winter MAP results showed progress and described a range of student supports and activities, including initiatives for military‑connected pupils and expanded arts access funded by Prop. 28.
The school presenter said winter MAP math scores rose from 31% meeting or exceeding last year to 40% this year, and language arts winter scores rose from 31% to 37% across tested grades (kindergarten through fifth grade). The presenter said the school measures connectedness and attendance alongside academic metrics and noted hands‑on data walls used at each grade level to track student progress.
Students who spoke described classroom experiences and extracurriculars. Fifth grader Hadley said, “Every teacher I’ve had has brought something unique to the classroom, and each one has helped train me into the student and person I am today.” In a separate comment about being a new student, Camille Rotra said she was “pretty nervous” at first but grew to appreciate teachers and the principal; David Johnson said his military family situation made support from school counselors important.
School leaders described Anchor for Life, a three‑year program to greet and support new or transitional students, and said the district honored the school this year with a Purple Star designation for supporting military families. The presenter credited a learning‑loss teacher, community liaison Myrna, TOSA Carrie Studgett and the counseling team with supporting student attendance, connection and academic growth.
The presentation included a short student video and examples of PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) work used in weekly assemblies to reinforce expectations such as responsibility and respect. The presenter also highlighted use of Prop. 28 and local FAPA resources to expand arts in classrooms.
Board members thanked the students and staff and moved on to other agenda items. No formal board action was taken on the school presentation itself.
