The Silver Creek School Corporation Board of Trustees approved Change Order No. 15 for the Calhoun construction project May 13, authorizing a net change of $274,801.83.
Director of facilities Doctor Balmer told the board the change order comprises 17 individual items including additional demo work, exterior scope adjustments at the front of the building, fire‑alarm updates tied to modulars, and added work around radiant panels and FCUs in the auxiliary gym corridor. Balmer said those items were partly unforeseen once crews opened ceiling areas and worked in between the auxiliary gym and main entry.
Balmer noted a primary credit: leaving the Calhoun lay‑down lot as is produced a $31,000 credit. "This is part of construction. You're gonna bump into things that are unforeseen, design changes," Balmer said, and added that contingency funds exist for such events.
Board member Mister Groen moved the change order; Miss McDaniel seconded. The board voted "Aye," 5‑0, to approve the order. Balmer told the board that contingency levels remain in reasonable shape after the change and praised construction managers for minimizing contingency use.
The board packet included detail for the 17 items; the district said the additional work is part of normal onsite discovery and will be funded from project contingency.
