Silver Creek board approves small shift to school start and end times to ease bus runs

The Silver Creek School Corporation Board of Trustees voted 5-0 May 13 to change student start and end times for several schools beginning with the 2025–26 school year.

Board members said the tweak is intended to give transportation staff extra time to complete routes amid construction and traffic along major corridors. "We're currently having, just with what we're currently facing with traffic and stuff... we're tweaking a little bit," Superintendent Dr. Briggs said at the meeting.

The adjustments approved by the board are: Silver Creek Primary student day from 8:10 a.m.–2:50 p.m. to 8:20 a.m.–3:00 p.m.; Silver Creek Elementary from 8:10 a.m.–3:00 p.m. to 8:20 a.m.–3:10 p.m.; middle school and high school from 7:40 a.m.–2:22 p.m. to 7:40 a.m.–2:25 p.m.; pre‑AM preschool from 8:45 a.m.–11:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.–11:45 a.m.; PM preschool remains 12:30 p.m.–3:30 p.m. PLCs on Wednesdays will adjust accordingly.

Board member Mister Groen moved the measure and Miss Franklin seconded; the motion carried unanimously, "Aye," with no recorded opposition. Administrators emphasized car‑rider drop‑off times should remain the same and that principals and transportation staff will work to avoid changing family drop routines.

Transportation Director Kaye Hafer and building principals worked on the plan, Dr. Briggs said, and the small minute adjustments to the middle and high school day were described as restoring minutes previously removed. The board noted the change is intended to reduce bus delays caused in part by local redevelopment and traffic on Highway 31 and Highway 403.

The board will publish details for families and implement the revised schedule for the coming school year.

Less-critical scheduling specifics and building-level calendars were discussed during building reports at the meeting.
