Board adopts updates to student handbooks, multiple policies and renews legal contract

The Blaine County District board on Tuesday approved a package of policy and handbook updates and renewed a legal‑services contract.
Trustees approved updated student handbooks that will include the district handbook text so families receive a single combined document, and asked administration to consider central review for consistency in future years.
On policy, the board approved several updates: an overhaul of the administering‑medications policy, a change to the student drug/alcohol/tobacco policy to explicitly address nicotine pouches, an update to the policy on formulation and revision of policy to reflect current practice, and an update to advisory‑committee policy. The board also adopted a new policy on student publications to clarify guidelines for school newspapers and similar student media; the district said the new policy is intended to help schools respond consistently if publication content or advertising is challenged.
Legal counsel (Lincoln Law / Jill, per meeting) was recommended for renewal; trustees approved renewal of that contract by voice vote. Administration said the subscription model for policy bank and updates facilitates quarterly calls and policy rollout support.
Board members moved and approved all policy and handbook items by voice vote. Several trustees thanked staff and legal counsel for the volume of policy work completed this year and noted that many additional policies remain in the review pipeline.
