Council approves up to $275,000 for upgraded fire-station alerting system

Belton City Council approved Resolution 2025-43 authorizing the purchase and installation of a Honeywell Phoenix G2 station alerting system from US Digital Designs for fire stations 81 and 82 in an amount not to exceed $275,000.
Staff told council the upgrade will add automation to dispatch so that when dispatchers enter call type and address the alerting system will automatically notify firefighters within the stations. “An update and an upgrade to the system. An add another component that's gonna add an automation to the dispatch so that when they type in the type of call and the address, the system's gonna automatically start notifying firefighters and go through the new alerting systems within the stations,” a staff presenter said.
Staff also said additional actions will be required in coming meetings: a software agreement with CentralSquare (the city’s computer-aided dispatch vendor) so the systems can communicate and a memorandum of understanding with South Metro Fire Protection District to share gateway equipment already purchased by the district, which staff said would reduce costs.
The resolution was approved by voice vote. Staff characterized the purchase as budgeted and asked for the not-to-exceed amount to allow for unforeseen building- or installation-related issues in the older stations.
