The Jackson County Commission voted on April 14 to add Old Baptist Cemetery, located on County Road 42, to the county’s active public cemetery list, enabling county maintenance assistance such as gravel delivery and other upkeep previously done only on an ad hoc basis.
County staff told commissioners that Old Baptist Cemetery is very old but that the county had one prior recorded maintenance action — delivery of scrap gravel at the direction of a previous commission chair — and that adding the cemetery to the active list is necessary before the county can undertake regular maintenance. County Engineer Campbell confirmed the cemetery’s name for the record as Old Baptist Cemetery.
The commission approved the motion to add the cemetery to the active public-cemetery list and asked staff to coordinate maintenance scheduling and any necessary documentation.
Ending: With the motion passed, staff will list Old Baptist Cemetery as an active public cemetery and plan maintenance work, such as gravel delivery for the circular drive, under county maintenance schedules.
