The Loveland City Council approved contracts to demolish the vacant Dinesse Mirror Factory building and to perform associated soil remediation, steps city staff said are needed because the building is deteriorated and accessible to trespassers.
City Manager Dave Kennedy said the city previously secured grant funding to acquire the property but the earlier funding did not include demolition. Bids for demolition came back and Citywide Waste Removal was the low bidder at about $149,950, Kennedy said; the city also authorized a contract with Patriot Engineering for soil remediation oversight and testing at a not-to-exceed amount to be determined once soils are evaluated.
Kennedy said Patriot Engineering had previously taken soil borings before the city purchased the property and that final remediation costs depend on the amount and type of contaminated soil uncovered. He said the city will demolish the structure, remediate soils as needed and then market the cleared site; a realtor is already engaged but the city delayed marketing until the structure was removed.
Council adopted the demolition and remediation resolutions by roll call.
