Commissioners approved a $53,000 change order for Edwards Park to address groundwater the contractor encountered while preparing courts slated for conversion to pickleball and new lighting. The county attorney and staff said the additional work — installing gravel and related foundation work — is needed before sidewalks and paving can proceed. Commissioners were told the change order keeps the project under the county’s $100,000 local match; the rest of the project is funded by a state grant.
The board also approved a $20,000 change order for replacement of a handicap-accessible playground adjacent to the Miracle Field. Officials said the existing playground is about 13 years old, has some broken and unsafe parts and that the change order stays within the original SPLOST 2020 budget for the project. Commissioners noted the county will also perform maintenance on the Miracle Field surface to extend its life; the item references project code 14008 30.
Both motions passed on 4-0 votes.
